Detailed Safari Itinerary of the 12 Days Uganda Kenya Gorillas, Chimpanzee & Big 5 Safari

Day 1 of the 12 Days Uganda Kenya Gorillas, Chimpanzee & Big 5 Safari: Drive to Maasai Mara National Reserve, sightseeing of Great Rift valley & afternoon game drive

After breakfast depart for Maasai Mara Game Reserve (265 km – 5 Hrs drive). Enjoy a leisurely drive with a stopover at the view point to marvel at the scenic beauty of the Great Rift valley. Arrive in time for lunch at the lodge. Maasai mara is a vast area of grassy plains converging by the meandering Mara river. It is an African Gem and an area rich in culture, tradition, beauty and home to the big five. Afternoon game drives at 1600 hrs.

Day 2 of the 12 Days Uganda Kenya Gorillas, Chimpanzee & Big 5 Safari: Unlimited game drive in Maasai Mara National Reserve

Morning tea or coffee, early morning game drive, watch the savannah waking up, return to the camp for breakfast. You can opt to Take a guided camp walk, learn more about sustainable tourism, visit the Masai Arts & Crafts Workshop, or visit a local cultural Masai village to learn more about this unique tribe that co-exist freely with wildlife (Extra Cost). Afternoon game drives at 1600 hrs in search of the big five. Alternatively, you can opt to do a full day game drives with picnic lunch boxes

Day 3 of the 12 Days Uganda Kenya Gorillas, Chimpanzee & Big 5 Safari: Drive to Lake Nakuru National Park & game drive

Drive to Lake Nakuru National Park after breakfast, enjoy the en route views, settle for lunch upon arrival and later embark on an afternoon game drive. The likely sights of Flamingos, Black Rhino, Rothschild Giraffe, White Rhino, Zebras among others. The extension to the baboon cliff presents nice sightseeing experience.

 Day 4 of the 12 Days Uganda Kenya Gorillas, Chimpanzee & Big 5 Safari: Drive to Kampala Uganda via Busia

Settle breakfast after which you drive to Kampala Uganda crossing at Busia boarder post.  The sights of Eastern Uganda are amazing the world’s longest Nile River and Mabira Forest Reserve.

Day 5 of the 12 Days Uganda Kenya Gorillas, Chimpanzee & Big 5 Safari: Drive to Kibale National Park / Fort Portal Area. Visit Amabere Caves & hike the Fort Portal Crater lake field

Embark on the drive to Fort Portal Area 300km around 5 hours’ drive from Kampala with nice views of countryside landscapes including inselbergs of Mubende and the lush tea estates on the undulating landscape close to Fort Portal.  Hot lunch in Fort Portal, and in the afternoon, visit the Amabere g’ Nyinamwiru caves and hike the Fort Portal crater lake field for culture and sightseeing experience. Retire for overnight.

Day 6 of the 12 Days Uganda Kenya Gorillas, Chimpanzee & Big 5 Safari: Chimpanzee Habituation Experience

At Kanyanchu Tourism Centre – the starting point for tourist activities in Kibale National Park will be open for your briefing at 6am after which you will head to the forest to connect with Chimpanzees as they set out of their nests to forage. Throughout the day, you keep following them as they forage, patrol, mate, play, make pant hooting calls among other behaviors. Retire from the activity at around 7pm and transfer back to the Hotel for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 7 of the 12 Days Uganda Kenya Gorillas, Chimpanzee & Big 5 Safari: Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, visit the Ruboni Community & game drive upon arrival in the afternoon

Depart after breakfast from Kibale NP to Queen Elizabeth National Park 157km about 3 hours’ drive excluding the time spent in Ruboni community en route.  The tour to the Ruboni Community offers an encounter with the Bakonzo tribe who have thrived on the foothills of Mount Rwenzori for 300 years past learning about their traditions, way of life and livelihood. Enjoy lunch in Kasese and proceed to Queen Elizabeth NP for an afternoon game drive.

Day 8 of the 12 Days Uganda Kenya Gorillas, Chimpanzee & Big 5 Safari: Kasenyi sector morning game drive, Kazinga channel boat safari & channel track game drive in the evening

Kasenyi sector game drive to the north east of the park traverses the lush open savannah and presents chances of exploring Lions, Leopard, Buffalos, Elephants, defassa waterbucks, Kobs, spotted Hyenas among others.  The game drive takes 3 – 4 hours after which you connect to Mweya Peninsular for lunch and afternoon Kazinga Channel boat safari starting at 2pm for a period of 2 hours. The boat safari offers chances of viewing Hippos, Nile crocodiles, birds like storks, cormorants and skimmers along with the wild game drinking water on the channel shores. From the boat, you do an evening game drive along the channel track as you connect to the lodge for relaxation and overnight.

Day 9 of the 12 Days Uganda Kenya Gorillas, Chimpanzee & Big 5 Safari: Ishasha sector game drive in search of tree climbing lions & other wild game & proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park 

Set off for the drive to Ishasha sector in the south of Queen Elizabeth National Park for an extensive game drive in search of tree climbing lions that tend to lie on the fig tree branches during the day time. This sector of the park also offers other wild game sights. From the activity, proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable NP for relaxation, dinner and overnight

Day 10 of the 12 Days Uganda Kenya Gorillas, Chimpanzee & Big 5 Safari: Bwindi Impenetrable NP Mountain Gorilla Trekking & slope to Lake Bunyonyi for relaxation  

Embark on an exciting Mountain Gorilla Trekking encounter in the rugged hilly forested landscapes of Bwindi dubbed the Impenetrable in search of the Critically endangered Mountain Gorillas. The destination Bwindi is a profound home to a minimum of 400 Mountain Gorillas of which Seventeen (17) groups are habituated for trekking. Gorilla Trekking at 8am with briefing from the respective park headquarters and lasts for 2 – 8 hours depending on how the family has moved. The actual viewing is limited to one hour for purposes of conservation and within this time, you take incredible photoshoots and view the gorillas in detail. Retire from the activity and slope to Lake Bunyonyi – the lake of a thousand Islands to spend the evening at leisure.

Day 11 of the 12 Days Uganda Kenya Gorillas, Chimpanzee & Big 5 Safari: Relaxed breakfast & motorized canoe ride & drive to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Sightseeing of Kigezi Highlands & Virunga Volcanoes

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast, and a thrilling motorized canoe ride exploring the sights of this amazing lake including the beautiful Islands.  From the activity, settle for lunch and later transfer to Kisoro following a scenic road before being welcomed by the incredible Virunga Volcanoes.

Day 12 of the 12 Days Uganda Kenya Gorillas, Chimpanzee & Big 5 Safari: Golden Monkey trekking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park & drive to Kigali

Take up an exciting Golden Monkey trekking encounter in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. The activity starts at 8am from Ntebeko visitor Centre and lasts about 4 hours with one full hour of actual viewing. The Golden Monkeys tend to thrive on the slopes of Mount Gahinga in the bamboo zone. Listed as endangered on the IUCN red list, Golden Monkeys are only found in Uganda, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo.  Retreat from the activity & drive to Kigali
