Sibiloi National Park is located on the lines of lake Turkana- the world`s largest desert lake. Sibiloi national park has distinctive fossils that and is a park of archaeological importance famously known as The Cradle of Mankind. This park is a paradise park for archaeologists and adventurous travelers who fall for less travelled areas.
Sibiloi National park is an amazing park in its unique style. The park is made up of volcanic terrain, lake shores, savannah and riverine forests despite being very dry. Of all the soda lakes in the Rift Valley, lake Turkana is the biggest and perhaps the most stirring dubbed the Jade sea because of its enormous proportions and striking color. Lake Turkana is less than 270 km long located in the northern frontier of Kenya.
Sibiloi National Park is located near the border of Ethiopia on the Eastern shores of lake Turkana. The park covers 1,571 km². The south and central island national parks of Sibiloi together form Lake Turkana National park.
The Cradle of Humankind
The establishment of Sibiloi National Park in 1973 was mainly to protect the fossils sites that were found there. The park has been essential to the improved understanding of the evolution of man than anywhere else in the world.
The Koobi Fora Region is the midpoint of paleontological, archaeological and geological interest. The earth movements, heritages of man and evolution of mammals over the past 4 million years have been recorded, documented and studied at many sites, but the most interesting is the there is still an immense land with fossil exposures that are yet to be discovered.

Sibiloi National Park is very hot and arid, it protects only a range of wildlife that can withstand arid conditions, such as Beisa Oryx, Grevy’s Zebra, greater Kudu, and Gerenuk. Other wildlife species that are known to be around the park include lions, cheetahs, leopards, spotted hyenas, Caracal and jackals among others. the central island of the park is a home for Nile crocodiles.
Sibiloi National park inhabits over 300 species of birds especially in areas around lake Turkana. The number of bird species go higher than that especially in the summer season when migratory birds arrive. Most noticed birds that thrive near lake Turkana are the flamingoes and pelicans which feed on algae in the water and they also love the salty environment. Other bird species that can be spotted along the lake shores include; African Skimmers, Gulls and herons. The park also inhabits local birds like the Crested Lark and Heuglin’s Bustard.
