Destination Guide for Marsabit National Park
Marsabit is a handsome National Park in Kenya that inhabits a big population of elephants, birds and reptiles. Marsabit is a green oasis in the middle of an arid environment with many geological features.
The popularity of Marsabit National park began way back in 1970`s when it had a very big population of Elephants with the longest tusks in Africa. One of the bulls was put under 24-hour surveillance by presidential decree and this bull was called Ahmed. By the time Ahmed died, he had tasks weighing 300kg. This fame for Marsabit national park as a home of Elephants with their impressive tusks still exist.
How to get to Marsabit national park.
From Nairobi, Marsabit national park is 560km. Accessing Marsabit National Park is through Nanyuki and Isiolo. The road is in good condition up to Merille and from Merille to Marsabit, you will need a 4×4 vehicle to access the park.
You can also fly to Marsabit national park, there is an airstrip just outside the park.

Marsabit National Park is among the green Oasis in this semi-arid region of Kenya. It features an extinct volcano in the heart of the park and this volcano creates a conducive climate that supports growth of natural forest which in turn supports wildlife.
The water that feeds this montane forest is generated from the mist that is formed due to evaporation and mist that often lingers until morning.
The park inhabits a wide number of wildlife species including the African big five namely; lions, leopards, elephants, Buffalos and Rhinos. The only hitch with Marsabit is that the park features a very thick forest which makes viewing wildlife very challenging. But the good thing is, the game drive is more adventurous and good for patience tourists.
Marsabit National Park also inhabits a big number of Greater Kudu Antelope and the rare Grevy`s Zebra as well as Reticulated Giraffes.
The park also features a huge Gof called Gof Sokorte Guda which also features a lake paradise at its bottom. Birding of this lake is very fantastic and it offers a beautiful scenery surrounded by the forest. Before you talk about the variety of butterfly species which the park offers, you should first know that Marsabit National park the endangered Lammergeyer Vulture.

Generally, accommodation is not that good but there are basic camps within the park.
The months of January to March, July and October are very hot and dry, from April to June, the place is hot and wet while November to December is warm and wet.
