Do Gorillas climb?
Gorillas are predominantly land dwelling animals that spend much of their time on land and a small percentage of 5 – 20% in trees. This makes them different from chimpanzees and orangutans that spend 47 – 67% and 100% of their time in trees respectively.
However, it should be noted that gorillas also climb in search of fruits and branches to swing on. They do this by climbing quad-rupedally but they do not throw themselves from on tree to another or from branch to branch like Monkeys due to their heavy weight. IN fact silverbacks and other adult male gorillas rarely climb since they contain a lot of weight on their bodies that gives them hard time to get off the ground. The young gorillas and female gorillas often climb since they carry relative light weight.
